Throughout the Bible there are references as to how we should treat the poor, indicating God’s clear priority to those who fall into this category in our community.

“He who is gracious and lends a hand to the poor, lends to the Lord.” Proverbs 19:17

CityHope is our heartfelt response to this profound truth – that when the poor experience the effects of our generosity, God Himself feels it too.  In fact, it is the DNA of God showing up is us, it is His image being displayed!

All that we do depends completely on volunteer involvement; we’d love to have you as part of one of our teams for the year ahead.  You are guaranteed to ‘receive back’ far more than you give!

In practical terms this includes weekly input and interaction with the teachers and children of four crèches in nearby Embo, as well as teams that run an English reading and literacy program (Neema) for Grade 1-4s in a local Embo Primary School.

Then there’s the CityHope Educare extra lesson initiative, for Khabazela High School learners in Grades 10 to 12. This helps the students with subjects such as English, Maths, Accounting and Life Skills.

A team of volunteers also manage our feeding program for needy families from Embo who are connected to CityHill, and are provided with groceries once a week.  Part of this ministry includes packaging of nutritional food packs once a month that are included in their grocery parcels, and also distributed to the creches we work with.

Our sewing and baking classes continue to run every week, with some exciting new possibilities on the horizon in this area.
