Early on the 24th March 2017, a team of six members from CityHill embarked on a four-day mission trip into southern Mozambique. We had the privilege of partnering with Andy Lund from Rivers Church in Matubatuba, who has been faithfully working into this area for the last four years, building relationships and running a satellite bible college with local leaders on the ground.

This particular trip was to go and be part of the official launch of a church in Catuane, a few hours inland from the coast. The church is led by a young man whom Andy Lund has been working with for some years and who has been completely transformed by the power of God’s word and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We had the privilege of camping on site for two nights and being part of ministering into the surrounding community and praying into the launch on the Sunday morning. A small marquee tent was provided which CityHill had the privilege of contributing to and transporting from Durban. It was absolutely incredible to see Jesus at work building His Church and changing lives. The launch on the Sunday morning was amazing, the tent was full of local church members and other people who had been prayed for the day before during the door-to-door visits. A second service continued after the first as God sent more people from neighboring homesteads and villages. It was amazing to see people transformed and set free as they encountered God’s presence.

Our final night was spent on the coast as a team, and while chatting around the fire we celebrated Jesus and the incredible love He showed to this community and to our team. As with every trip, our lives had been deeply impacted and our hearts changed as we saw God’s Kingdom advance.

Joseph and Lusanda Dhlamini from LRC church (Ed and Heidi Strong’s church), who were past members of Hillcrest Christian Fellowship, hosted us with love, humility and good food. Our mission was to construct an awning on a house church in Alexandra in order to provide further room for their expanding group to transition into a church.

Mark De Beer, Ian Milne, Murray Wright and I left at 4:00am on Fri 24th March, arrived at 11:00am and started the job with some useful and enthusiastic local church members. We finished the job on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm and headed home, arriving back at 10:00pm.

We were treated with good food, fellowship and felt humbled by the experience knowing that we could serve the local church in one of South Africa’s townships as well as support Ed and Heidi who have been a blessing to us at CityHill.
