In May 2016 I read something that changed my life and subsequently the life of our local Church. My hope and prayer is that it will change you. Here’s what I read: “If the Holy Spirit were to remove Himself from your Church service would you be able to continue business as normal?”

I wept, as the reality of it begun to sink in. I found myself crying out to God, asking for forgiveness around the fact that much of what we were doing could continue to happen even if the Holy Spirit was missing. I had allowed myself and the people of our Church to be satisfied with the ordinary.

The following Sunday I challenged the people with these words “If the Holy Spirit were to remove Himself from your life would you be able to continue to live the Christian life as you have always lived it?” Like me, they were challenged. We made a decision that day that we were never going to be satisfied with anything “ordinary” ever again. As a Church we had passed the point of no return.

Mathew 7:21-23 impacted our hearts: “Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to me on that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name perform many miracles? And then I will declare to them. “I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.”

It was time for us to go deeper with God. We were hungry to know Him better and if doing His will is prophecy, casting out demons, and healing the sick, then that is what we want to see happening in our midst. We can’t and shouldn’t settle for less.

Well, within a month of that, we began to see spiritual breakthroughs. An unchurched lady ended up in hospital with ARDS- Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Her immune system was low, her lungs were collapsing, an infection was spreading, and oxygen to the brain was slowing. After three weeks in hospital things weren’t getting any better, they were getting worse. Doctors said it could take three months before things got a little better. That’s when we got the call. I sent someone. Within three days, tubes were being removed, and within six days she was walking around back at home. God is good.

A lady in our Church had suffered from Shingles for two weeks. Someone prayed for her at Church and the next day the scabs were falling off.

A man in one of our small groups had constant lower back pain for four years. The group prayed for him, and immediately he was healed.

A lady had a cancerous growth in her eye. Her eye was almost closed. She had already had three chemo injections into her eye but was told she needed three more. She was prayed for and had fully recovered in two days.

From anxiety attacks, diabetes, and heart problems to unemployment – we’ve seen people who have been unemployed for two years find work, people getting promoted and a salesman recording record sales… God definitely has the key to unlock doors in tough economic times.

We believe God has so much more for us, “No good thing does God withhold from those who walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11).

We are constantly seeing God using ordinary people to do extraordinary things, which is why I know if God is using us, He will gladly use you.
